R. Justin Stewart currently lives and works in New York City. He uses ordinary materials, such as pen and paper, fleece, wooden spheres, ropes, zip ties, and o-rings to create 2- and 3-dimensional maps, systems and structures. His work tends to be simplistic in materials and construction techniques, yet simultaneously intricate and complex in their final manifestations. These art works are often based upon empirical data that Stewart gathers from the world, either through research into preexisting systems like transit maps, or more personal information based on his own movements.
