To a listener of these sonic short fictions, I’d say, think of them as story-songs, or sound-word collages. Sometimes I begin with writing. Other times, working like the painter I once was, I place sonic phrases, bits and bobs of digital sound onto the audio palette of my digital software program. Half of my brain is responsible for constructing narratives out of the clutter that the other half drags home and really enjoys the work. Although these pieces are narratives for me now, the truth is that beginning them I had nothing in mind. Working this way is my only shot at finding anything original to say. If I were trapped in the advertising game, and hired to inspire you to purchase a skunk, I’d be a flop.
